What is a Lion?
Lions Club International is the World's largest service club organization with 1.35 million members in 206 countries worldwide. Lions Club International was founded in 1917 with a mission to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding. In 1925, Helen Keller addressed the Lions Clubs International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, USA, and challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." Since then, we have worked tirelessly to aid the blind and visually impaired. Keller Lions were founded in 1948, and have been serving the Keller community continually ever since. Keller Lions support a myriad of charitable causes in the community. We underwrite eye exams and corrective eyewear for dozens of economically disadvantaged students in the Keller Independent School District each year. We collect used eyeglasses for recycling. Keller Lions also respond quickly to address sudden needs in the community. We form work parties to remove trees felled by high winds on the property of elderly residents, construct wheelchair ramps, or provide emergency funding for residents dealing with disaster or sudden loss. |
